Helping a student in Africa. Can I count on you?

Dear Friends,

Would you help me make a difference in someone's life? That's a student who lives in Africa!

Today is October 15!
We celebrate Teacher's Day in Brazil. I am a teacher. I teach Portuguese at the University level in the USA. I love teaching. October is also a special month for me for another reason: it's my birthday. I want to celebrate this month in a unique way! And for that I have a special request to you!

I invite you to help me and my family contribute with a student who lives in Africa: Modu E Ba. Read more details about this story here.

Modu is a 24-year-old young man from a tiny little country in West Africa: the Gambia. He lives in Penyem, a small  rural village in the country. We met him during the World Soccer Cup last summer in an online forum.

Penyem, like many rural villages in Africa, does not have lots of resources and available support. "The Gambia's economy is dominated by farming, fishing and, especially, tourism. In 2015, 48,6% of the population lived in poverty. In rural areas poverty is even more widespread with a higher proportion of the population being poor (almost 70%)."

Modu has a heart for his community and he has shared how much he wants to be instrumental in breaking the cycle of poverty. He has a dream and passion to go to College. His family, however, does not have the means to help him.

Modu is very engaged in his community. He often volunteers in several social projects. He has been a soccer coach for the children in his village. In this picture we can see the team of kids he used to coach.

I am trying to help Modu get a higher education at the Gambia College.
I have sought ways to help him and I have found the Northampton Trustee Fund.
It was organized by two educators, Andy and Anne Butler from Northampton, UK in 2004, after they visited the country of Gambia.

It is very impressive what they have accomplished for the village of Penyem. For details I invite you to watch this video, and to read their most recent Newsletter.

When I contacted Andy and Anne Butler about Modu, I was excited to hear that they were familiar with Modu and his family. I heard that Modu was a volunteer in their projects and that he was highly regarded in the village.

Modu has applied and he has just been accepted to the Gambia College. Modu wants to pursue a degree in Public Health, Social Assistance or Agriculture. With any of these college degrees he will be able to make a difference in his community!

I would like to ask you, my friends, to contribute with Northampton Trustee Fund on behalf of Modu E Ba. Any amount you provide will be helpful. Please, go to their page and click on Make a Donation. The transaction is handled through Paypal or any major credit card.

Together we can fight poverty and give hope to many people around the world. Do you have a heart for people who do not have the same opportunities in life? Can you join me and my family in this project?

I really would love to count on your gift in this special month of October... or any time.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH! MUITO OBRIGADA!
